Best Food Processor Australia (Buyers Guide)

So you’re looking for the best food processor Australia has to offer? Well you’ve come to the right place as we’ve looked at five of the best in this overcrowded market.

You definitely don’t need to spend a lot of money buying one but the saying, you get what you pay for, couldn’t be more appropriate in this category.

If you want cheap then you know three big box retailers that will happily sell you one. If you want brand name, then you’ll need to spend more.

Why should I buy a food processor?

Having a food processor will, without a doubt, save you time and effort in the kitchen.

A top of the range modern food processor may have attachments to perform the following tasks: chopping, slicing, dicing, shredding, mincing, mixing (including dough), crushing (ice), grinding, pureeing, and even beating. Most food processors will have many of these functions.

Whilst having a food processor will not entirely replace the need for other kitchen appliances like stand mixers and blenders, they all have their place in the kitchen of a person who likes to create good food at home.

And a food processor does take away a lot of the time-consuming tedium that cooking does, let’s face it, traditionally involve.

But they also can be great to create finished products like dips, sauces, soups and the shredded Parmesan to sprinkle on your spaghetti.

A food processor is great for the keen home cook but if you aren’t a regular cook, or you have a small kitchen, you can buy a mini food processor or even attachments for your mixer.

You can buy food processors from many different retailers such as Kmart, Target, Big W, Appliances Online, Bing Lee and Good Guys.

We recommend buying from Amazon as they offer fast delivery and an easy returns process. Prime members get free delivery on prime products too, so you don’t even need to leave the house.

2. Philips Food Processor 750W Black

  • PowerChop technology
  • Perform 28+ functions
  • Color coded speed combinations
  • Highly rated online.

The Philips Food Processor 750W (HR7762/90) is a very small unit: a 2L bowl which actually holds only 1.5L or 5 portions. Those who don’t have large kitchens will love it.

The downside of course is that you are limited in the batch size for processing you can perform.

This food processor boasts that its standard accessories can perform over 28 functions. These include chopping, slicing, shredding, granulating, beating, blending, grating, and milling.

Even beating egg whites and cutting French fries. Customer reviews do praise this aspect of this product.

The product includes a 1L jug for blended smoothies which is a nice addition.

The 750W motor is certainly a good size for a compact unit so overheating shouldn’t be a problem. It has two speeds and a pulse setting.

Customer reviews of this Philips food processor are mixed, to say the least. It’s important if you are considering purchasing this product to remember that it is a small food processor and is not designed for heavy duty applications, despite the manufacturer’s product description.

After all, It is priced at the low end of the market and there’s always a reason for that.

3. Cuisinart FP-8GMA Food Processor

  • 8-Cup work bowl
  • Reversible shredding and slicing discs
  • Integrated feed tube
  • Affordable pricing.

Trusted brand Cuisinart now has its FP-8GMA food processor, a medium size model (8 cup capacity) for everyday family use.

It features stainless steel moving parts and rubberized controls for easy use. All removable parts are dishwasher safe.

The sturdy construction is durable for years of use. And in gunmetal grey it looks a treat on any benchtop.

With its 350 Watt motor it’s not a particularly powerful machine compared to many others but it does the job. It has two speed settings (High and Low) as well as a Pulse function.

The Cuisinart food processor has all the functions you expect (slice, dice, chop, shred and blend) and many others including knead, liquefy, puree, mix etc.

To minimise the number of parts you have to clean and store the blades and discs are reversible. And the feed tube and pusher allow easy addition of foods to the bowl while the machine is on, and the small hole in the pusher makes it even easier to add liquids like oil or stock in a steady stream.

The Instruction Booklet also includes handy recipes which help you get used to the food processor if you’re new to this world.

4. Breville BFP800BAL Kitchen Wizz Pro

  • Super fine variable slicing
  • Extra wide feed chute
  • Quad blade reduces time
  • Heavy duty induction drive.

The Kitchen Wizz Pro (BFP800BAL) by Breville is truly a food processor for the home chef among us.

With a massive 2000 Watt direct drive induction motor and 3.6L (16 cup) bowl you can put pretty much anything into this machine and turn it into jello!

As an example, the extra wide chute (14cms) will handle whole potatoes. That means that you should never have to do any pre-chopping of larger veggies.

And the 4 blade chopping system gives a faster and more consistent result every time, no matter how large the load is.

That is important when you are cooking larger quantities for cooking evenly through the food and for presentation of the end product.

And, by the way, there is a smaller 1L bowl for those times you’re just doing a smaller job.

The functions which are standard to this model include a fully adjustable slicer (24 settings between 0.5mm – 8mm) and blades for julienne, chips, shredding, and dough kneading, a whisker, a quad blade, and a mini blade.

All these are made from quality stainless steel, and there is a handy storage box for all parts when they’re not in use.

It is important to note that the parts are not dishwasher safe – that could well be a trap that many fall into in this day and age. Certainly the 2-year warranty would be voided in that event.

There is also a handy timer which counts up as well as down – thoughtful! And a safety overload protection system. All controls are via illuminated buttons.

The Breville Wizz Pro is a high end product price wise, although you can get a good price by shopping around.

Reviews are mixed but again expectations can be unreasonably high sometimes. This product is really best suited to those who spend a lot of time in the kitchen, understand what they are doing and enjoy looking after their products.

One important comment was that there is apparently no speed control on this product. That is a significant point to note in this context.

5. Kenwood MultiPro Home, Food Processor

  • Large 3L processing bowl
  • Two speeds plus pulse
  • Dishwasher safe washing
  • Includes various tools, parts.

The MultiPro Home Food Processor from Kenwood is such a versatile all-rounder for any home kitchen. It combines a food processor with a blender. What a space saver. And at such a great price.

It has a powerful 1000 Watt dual drive motor and base with a large 3L processing bowl, a 1.5L blender jug as well as a mini chopper. And yet it’s still quite a compact design so it will fit into most kitchens.

There are 2 speeds plus a pulse function giving you total control and providing consistent results you can rely on every time.

Standard functional attachments include blender, dough tool, whisk, thick slicing, fine slicing, knife blade, rasping disc, maxi blend canopy, and liquidizer.

So you can chop, dice, slice, grind and grate. You can whip, whisk or knead.

All removable parts are dishwasher safe so clean up is easy. But there is no storage case provided and customer reviews have highlighted this as an issue because of the number of parts there are to keep in the one spot somewhere.

Otherwise the reviews are generally good. And it’s a stylish appliance as well which is always a plus!

Difference between a blender and food processor?

A blender typically does nothing more complicated than thoroughly mix all the foods to create liquids like smoothies and shakes, whereas a food processor can handle quite labour intensive kitchen tasks like chopping, slicing, mincing, shredding etc.

A blender is great for those healthy vegetable smoothies that are so popular these days. And they’re usually designed to be drunk straight from the container. And they’re also fabulous for making soups and purees, also very popular.

A food processor, on the other hand, is your kitchen-hand, doing a lot those time-consuming boring tasks so you can focus on the pleasurable part of cooking.

And they becoming more and more versatile in their capabilities, coming with multiple attachments and large bowls for slicing, dicing,, shredding, and even mixing dough.

While there are some tasks which both of these appliances can do, there are others which only one of them can be used for. So ideally you will need each of them in your kitchen to be able to do all of their respective jobs.

How to use a food processor?

If any kitchen appliance can be fun to use it’s the food processor. And to ensure that you make full use of yours, and get your money’s worth, it’s really important to read the instructions first so that you understand what all the attachments are and how to use them.

Because there are a lot of different food processors out there at different prices and of vastly different standards and capacities and it’s important to know where yours sits in that range.

Having said that let’s look at the most standard attachments on an average full-size (7-10 cup 600+ Watt) model.

There will be a feeding tube on the top of the bowl to let you add ingredients slowly to avoid overload and to ensure a better result.

You will also have a pushing implement supplied so that you can push the food through the tube and the processing attachment.

The standard attachments with any food processor are grating, slicing and shredding discs which need to be fitted into the base of the feeding tube.

Other attachments you may have will generally be fitted in the same way. The food you’re wanting to process then needs to be fed through the disc via the tube using the pusher. The resulting processed food ends up in the bowl underneath.

So it’s all very easy to use and amazingly quick. There are some times when you may have to roughly chop a vegetable into chunks so that it fits into the feeding tube but essentially it is as described.

How to clean a food processor?

Whilst being a kitchen marvel and oh so time-saving as a cooking aid, a food processor is surprisingly not quite so straightforward to clean properly.

If you don’t pay attention to cleaning it properly you will have bits of food debris left in parts of it, which is not so pleasant to think about.

So here are some tips.

Take the processor completely apart. Wash the blade first and dry it immediately to prevent rust.

Rinse and then wash the other removable parts either in soapy water or in the dishwasher. Pay attention to these parts though because there are nooks and crannies where food can hide.

Soaking in warm soapy water before the dishwasher is a good idea to loosen any debris. Running warm water over and through the parts is also a good idea.

Finally wipe down the base and motor with a warm damp (not wet) cloth. Remember the motor is electrical and that does not mix with water. So it needs to be completely dry when in use next time.

Once clean and dry you can reassemble the food processor.
