How To Choose Best Table Tennis Table?
If you're unsure on how to buy the best table for your needs there's a few things to consider.
Firstly you should decide who you're buying for. Is this going to be used at home, at the office or permanently fixated outside. If you're buying for commercial use, you might need something more robust, especially if it's going to get a lot of use.
If you're buying for home, most tables are foldable and this is often the number one choice, unless you're lucky enough to own a large home.
To get more life out of your table, folding it away and storing indoors will ensure it lasts longer. While tables are designed for outdoor use, they will need regular cleaning and maintenance if they are simply left outside, unless you buy a commercial grade table.
What size is a full size table tennis table?
A standard sized table tennis table is 2.74m long and 1.525m wide. Nearly all brands offer standard sized tables, however some tables can be smaller or larger.
For example you can pick up a portable table tennis that is often much smaller. Likewise, you can buy larger tables for training purposes.
How much room do I need for a table tennis table?
Given the size of the standard table, you'll need much more space than that, unless you want to be up against the wall trying to play..
For competition use, you need to have 14m x 7m (LxB) for a good amount of space. This is rather extreme as professionals can play much further back from the table than amateurs.
Our advice for beginners is to work on a minimum of 6.5m x 3.5m of space. This gives you approx a metre at each side of the table.
If you're unsure on your space requirements, grab a tape measure and mark out where the table will go. It can be disappointing to assemble your table, only to have to return it as it didn't fit!
What colour surface should you buy?
Nearly all tables are blue, the industry standard for table tennis. However, you can buy any colour that suits you personally. I'm a huge fan of making your table unique, so you'll find some brands offer purple, black, green and even pink tables, to suit various desires.
You can always use different coloured balls if white balls don't appear clearly on your chosen table. It's common to find eCommerce stores selling orange, yellow and white ping pong balls.
How much is a good table tennis table?
You can spend as little or as much as you'd like when buying a table. You can get cheap deals as low as $300 for a full sized, foldable table. I've also seen competition grade and permanently fixed to the ground tables selling for $10,000+.
It's entirely up to your budget and what you're looking for. If it's for office or commercial use, you might want something robust, that could cost you upwards of $750+.
If you want to fix something to the ground in your backyard, you could spend $2,000+ on a permanent table tennis table.
If you simply want something for the kids to play during the holidays, a portable table could be bought and assembled for under $400.
Where To Buy Table Tennis Tables?
You can purchase table tennis tables from various different online and physical retailers here in Australia. Some eCommerce stores, only sell table tennis tables proving it's big business.
